VivaIP Workflow - Basic Technical Information
To apply VivaIP successfully,we should like to explain briefly which input data are needed for VivaIP and which results (output data)the product can deliver. Input data includes all information that can be processed by VivaIP. Into this group come of necessity »Data« and »Logic« as well as optional »Templates« and »Files«.

Data |
| The appearance and structure of your data source don't make any difference to VivaIP. Databases,Office Programs or Text files can serve as a data source, and the data must be available in a specific format. The data source must supply the data as a Delimiter Text file to VivaIP. Such a file (.csv)can easily be created by Office programs or also from databases and is a standardized format. Other formats as well as .csv files are also possible on requirement. |
| Logic |
| The Logic file defines, for example, where certain objects are placed and how they should interact. Thus it is defined in the Logic file exactly how a picture should be placed in a picture object. Additionally, the Logic file defines the maximum size of the picture object, when the picture itself is bigger than the object. Similar definitions are also applied to texts, their attributes and positioning. The Logic file is created with a Designer program, which is supplied together with VivaIP. |
| Templates |
| As an option, the documents created by VivaIP can be built on the basis of existing templates. These optional templates may contain definitions for Style Sheets or Master Pages (Alias Pages) on which objects are placed that are repeated on some pages. Naturally, these templates can contain as many Style Sheets and Master Pages as are required. As template files VivaIP accepts documents that have been created by the layout program VivaPress. Since for this program there are also filters for other layout programs, documents from other programs can also be used as templates. |
| Files |
Insofar as the documents to be created contain pictures, these will not be part of the data files, but will be available as special files. The data file will contain a reference to the name of the picture file. VivaIP supports all current picture formats, so that here there are no limitations. Also, you don't have to define in the data file which picture format is needed, since VivaIP is able to look for and find the appropriate file suffixes (e.g. .EPS or .JPG) in order as defined by the user, and to find and import the correct picture.
| VivaIP supports not only references to pictures but also to text files. The application of text files is particularly useful, when very long product descriptions are involved or when products must be imported in several languages. As well as the picture file reference, the reference to the name of the text file is also to be found in the data file. These text files can also contain special commands for the application of typographic attributes, which VivaIP interprets and applies automatically. |

| VivaIP Server |
After this all the input data are sent to the VivaIP Server. This server consists of a high performance computer and the VivaIP software components. As a result the server delivers various file formats in just a few seconds, depending on the configuration and complexity of the data.
| Layout file |
On requirement the VivaIP Server delivers an open layout file, which can be opened with the layout program VivaPress® and edited. Since VivaPress® also has an interface to other layout programs, the layout file can also be opened in these other programs.
| JPEG file |
On requirement VivaIP delivers a JPEG picture of each page created. Such files are needed for example to display the pages created in an Internet browser, or to store them for archive purposes in a document management program.
| PDF file |
On requirement VivaIP delivers PDF files in various qualities. VivaIP can deliver Low-Res PDFs for proof reading and correction purposes, Low-Res PDFs for final proof reading and approval and High-Res PDFs. Low-Res PDFs are files in which the pictures have been embedded in monitor quality (72 DPI). Low-Res PDFs for proof reading and correction purposes and for final approval are identical in principle, but the proof reading and correction version contains a watermark, which indicates that the file is for correction purposes only. VivaIP is also able to create High-Res PDFs, but in certain cases we recommend creating the High-Res PDFs with the Adobe Distiller.

| Additional Formats |
VivaIP can on requirement also deliver other file formats (e.g. EPS file, TIFF file, etc.) These formats are optional and can be offered on request.
