The Problem

What is VIVA Network Publishing (NWP)?
VIVA Network Publishing (NWP) is a completely new basis technology, which allows users without specialist knowledge to produce complex documents for printing, such as data sheets, catalogues, advertisements, manuals and even whole newspapers, fully automatically with the help of a program or via the Internet.
Why VIVA Network Publishing?
To understand the advantages of a new technology like VIVA Network Publishing (NWP) and to appreciate its necessity, we must first examine the current working methods and processes which arise in the creation of documents. Whether you are an amateur or a professional in the field of document creation, you will quickly recognize the problems involved in the light of the following scenarios.
How do we produce without VIVA Network Publishing?
Let's assume that a customer wants to produce a catalogue of some kind. To explain this process clearly and graphically we have prepared the following steps in the form of a diagram.

Generally the company already possesses a great deal of structured information. The customer makes this database available to a Service Provider, who may be external or may belong to a department of the company.

In this context, "Service Provider" means all individuals and organizations who are capable of processing the data in such a way that corresponding print-ready catalogue pages are created. The term can therefore apply to advertising agencies, repro houses or even printing companies.

As soon as the Service Provider receives the data from the customer's Project Manager, he will usually convert it into a form suitable for further processing. With good organization, this conversion will frequently occur by importing the data into another database and adding further layout information previously unknown to the customer (e.g. application of layouts to product groups, etc.).

In the next step the Service Provider imports the data into a layout program. This task can be undertaken manually, semi-automatically or ideally, fully automatically.

Next, the Service Provider creates a PostScript file, which must be converted into a PDF file for the customer, so that he can read the pages on any platform. Then the Service Provider sends the data to the customer's Project Manager. This can be done relatively quickly by E-Mail. The Project Manager passes the data on to the colleagues responsible, who make a print-out of the PDF files and correct them by hand so that these corrections can be entered in the database. Often the corrected printouts are sent straight back to the Service Provider without being entered into the database, so that he can incorporate the corrections directly into his layout

Even if your Service Provider is perfectly organized, uses the fastest and best Hardware and Software, the whole process from despatch of the data to the Service Provider up to the first in-house corrections takes at least 6-24 hours.

What kind of problems result from this?
Three main problems arise from this whole process:

1. The processing times are clearly much too long. Often time is of the essence in the creation of the documents, which must be produced quickly and and in which last-minute changes must be made.

2. The colleague responsible for text and pictures is reliant on outside help and cannot make the necessary changes himself without being trained in the complex workflow and the software.

3. Since in practice for time-saving reasons changes are often made in the layout directly, fatal differences between the printed page and the contents of the company's database occur.

VIVA Network Publishing (NWP) reduces this time to a few seconds and at the same time offers a much more comfortable way of working.
