Flexible Workflow

Through its interface to standard formats, VivaImpose® can be integrated into every Workflow.

Let us take an overview of the VivaImpose® Workflow Concept. Here we separate the whole workflow into the three steps Data Preparation and Import, Imposition and Output.

We'll start with data preparation and import. On the left hand side of the diagram (yellow box) you will see a selection of original applications. From some of them you can create an EPS file directly, from others a PDF file, or picture file. Common to all programs is the output as a PostScript file using the printer driver.

VivaImpose® imports EPS files and any picture format but also PDF files, insofar as Adobe® Acrobat® 4 is installed on your computer.

PostScript files are for various reasons not procesed:

1. Processing PostScript files would take much too long. Screen display and the whole processing speed would be considerably reduced.

2. Converting PostScript files to other formats enables a PreRIP process. This means that through the conversion it will be checked whether the data can be imaged. Defective data can therefore be identified early.

3. The quantity of data is generally dramatically reduced, which increases processing speed in the network and reduces output time.

Here is an example:

If from the original application a PostScript file of 300 MB is created, converting it to a PDF file without loss of quality gives a file of around 15-30 MB. The data quantity is thus reduced by a factor of 10 to 20. If from the PDF file EPS files are now created, the data quantity is increased to about 50-70 MB, which is still a reduction to around 25% of the original volume.

Even when it doesn't matter to VivaImpose® which data you create and where, we recommend to our customers that they have a single workflow for the preparation of customer data. The corresponding tools are available on the software market.
